Cosmetic surgery carries higher stakes than most health services: procedures involve anaesthesia, incisions, and recovery periods measured in weeks. For rhinoplasty, we checked whether each surgeon holds certification from the Indonesian Society of Plastic Surgeons (PERAPI) and cross-referenced listed training hospitals. For less invasive procedures like liposuction or hair transplants, we verified that the performing clinic has an identifiable surgical facility rather than operating from a standard consultation room. This page explains every step in that process.
Selecting Clinics for the Directory
We begin with a broad search of cosmetic surgery providers across Bali using Google Maps, clinic websites, medical tourism platforms, and patient forums. A clinic enters the directory when it meets all of these conditions:
- It performs at least one category of cosmetic surgical procedure (not exclusively non-surgical treatments like Botox or fillers)
- Its Google Maps listing has a meaningful number of patient reviews
- It operates from a physical address in Bali that we can confirm via Maps and clinic website
- It communicates with international patients in English
- It publishes enough information online for us to build a useful listing
Clinics that exclusively offer non-surgical aesthetics (injectables, laser treatments, facials) are not included in this directory. Those clinics appear on our separate aesthetics directory instead.
Checking Surgeon Credentials
Board certification matters most for surgical procedures. In Indonesia, the relevant credential for plastic and reconstructive surgery is SpBP (Spesialis Bedah Plastik), issued after completing a specialist residency programme. PERAPI (Perhimpunan Dokter Spesialis Bedah Plastik Rekonstruksi dan Estetik Indonesia) maintains a registry of certified surgeons.
For each clinic, we take the following steps:
- Identify the lead surgeon(s) from the clinic website and published profiles
- Search for their name in publicly available PERAPI records and hospital affiliation lists
- Record the credential and training hospital if found, or note that credentials are not publicly confirmed
- Check whether the clinic's website identifies the surgeon by full name and displays their qualifications
We do not contact the Indonesian Medical Council (KKI) directly. Our credential check relies on publicly available records. Patients considering surgery should always ask the clinic to provide documentation of their surgeon's qualifications before proceeding.
Sourcing Surgical Prices
Published surgical pricing is less common than published dental or aesthetics pricing. Many clinics offer consultations before quoting, and the final cost depends on procedure complexity, anaesthesia type, and whether hospital admission is required.
Where prices are published, we record them as follows:
- Capture the published price in IDR from the clinic's website or price list
- Note whether the stated price includes or excludes anaesthesia, hospital fees, and post-operative garments
- Record the source URL and the date of capture
- Flag prices that appear to be "starting from" estimates versus all-inclusive packages
Important: Surgical prices on this directory are starting estimates sourced from clinic publications. Final costs depend on individual assessment, anaesthesia, facility fees, and aftercare. Request a detailed written quote from your chosen clinic before committing.
Assessing Facility Standards
For procedures requiring general anaesthesia, the operating facility is as important as the surgeon. We note whether a clinic operates its own surgical theatre, partners with an accredited hospital, or refers patients to a hospital for the procedure itself. Clinic-based theatres and hospital-embedded surgical units are distinguished in listings so that patients can factor facility type into their decision. This information comes from clinic websites, Google Maps photos, and patient review descriptions.
Rating and Review Data
Google Maps provides the rating score and review count displayed on each listing. We pull this data programmatically and update it regularly. We do not edit, filter, or supplement Google reviews. The aggregate rating is one input to our ranking formula alongside review volume and data completeness. Surgical patients tend to leave detailed reviews describing their entire experience from consultation through recovery, which makes review content especially useful for researching clinics in this category.
Currency Display
All prices are stored in Indonesian Rupiah (IDR) and converted to your selected display currency using live exchange rates. Surgical costs can be substantial, so even minor rate movements produce noticeable differences. Treat converted prices as directional estimates and confirm the IDR amount directly with the clinic.
What a Listing Confirms and Does Not Confirm
A listing confirms:
- The clinic has a verified Google Maps presence with patient reviews
- Published prices are recorded as found on the clinic's materials at the noted date
- Surgeon credential information reflects what the clinic has published
A listing does not confirm:
- That we endorse or recommend the clinic
- That surgeon credentials have been independently verified with KKI or PERAPI
- That published prices are final or comprehensive
- That surgical outcomes or patient safety are guaranteed
Reporting Errors
If you find outdated pricing, incorrect surgeon information, or a clinic that has closed, please use our contact form. Corrections related to surgical procedures are prioritised.
